The premise
What if I told you that every setback, every heartbreak, every crisis wasn't meant to break you — but to build you?
By all logical accounts, I shouldn't be here. A kid from a broken home, handed off before I could speak, twelve schools in twelve years, bracing for the next disaster. I spent fifty years convinced that if I just worked harder, ran faster, and controlled more, I could outrun the chaos.
The truth? I wasn't afraid of dying. I was afraid of truly living.
This is a story about transformation — shifting from adversity to abundance, from fear to faith, from running to standing in your power. It's about how God works not only in the easy moments, but in the fire, in the struggle, in the crises that force us awake.
The turning point
One man. Two lives.
In December 2023, at the bottom, everything cracked open. What came after was a different man — the same story, a different ending.
Ken 1.0
- Worked himself into the ground, sure he controlled the future
- Carried the weight of the world alone
- Believed success meant grinding until there was nothing left
- Present as a provider — absent as a father, husband, man
- Mistook survival for living
Ken 2.0
- Leads with faith instead of fear
- Draws strength from brotherhood, not isolation
- Treats business as a vehicle — not an identity
- Shows up present: emotionally, spiritually, all in
- Builds a legacy his sons can stand on
Inside the book
The road from survival to unshakeable.
Roots in Resilience
Your survival instincts can be your greatest asset — or your biggest cage. Learn to rewire one into the other.
Lessons in Persistence
The paper route, the Burger King "no," the wrestling mat. Success is often just refusing to quit — and doing it scared.
Turning Points of Faith
Walking away from millions rather than searing my conscience — and finding integrity is all or nothing.
Building an Ethical Business
Why integrity isn't situational — and how character is forged in the small, unseen moments, long before the pressure ever comes.
The Breaking Point
The shattered ornaments, the eulogy exercise, and the day I declared: I'm not going out like this.
Faith, Healing & a New Beginning
Strength isn't isolation. It's found in brotherhood, self-care without guilt, and leading a marriage with presence, not control.
Living with Purpose
What real success measures — and a letter to my sons about the only legacy that lasts.
A New Dance of Love
Two boys, back to back in a bus station. A shelter. A marriage reborn. Home as a promise, not a place.

A signature framework
The Vehicle Philosophy
In the book, business is a vehicle — not an identity. In real life, I mean it literally: the car in your driveway is one of the largest wealth decisions you'll ever make, and almost everyone gets it backwards. It's saved me hundreds of thousands — and my sons adopted it in their teens.

About the author
Ken Allen
Ken Allen is a tax strategist and Enrolled Agent based in Maine, and the founder of a virtual accounting practice serving clients across the U.S. His work centers on tax resolution and ethical business — but his story goes far beyond business.
Raised in instability — moved constantly, surviving childhood abuse and homelessness — Ken defied the odds. He joined the Navy, became a father young, walked away from an unethical company despite the promise of millions, and started over more than once. At his lowest point in 2023, he battled suicidal thoughts. That year became the turning point that led to his transformation into "Ken 2.0."
Today he's a devoted husband and father, and chairman of a homeless ministry board — living proof that success and peace are possible no matter your start.
